Clifftops is a unique development of five luxury lodges, hewn out of the Portland stone cliffs
that sit on the edge of Pennsylvania Castle Estate.  Designed by Morrow + Lorraine
Architects, the building forms an integral part of the historic Estate landscape. The project
focuses on respecting the natural environment of the Jurassic Coast, the sympathetic yet
modern design showcasing the next step for the development of The Estate.

Guests will be drawn to the ancient fossilised sea creatures, captured within the stone walls of Clifftops. The stone itself has been selected from Portland’s Albion Quarry and cut just minutes away from Penn Estate – look out for the local mason’s inscriptions and doodles. Outside the lodges, award-winning Landscape Architects Coe Design has recreated the clifftop flora which integrates into this area of Special Scientific Interest. The copper wrapped lodges will sustainably age to retreat into the natural landscape over time.

The Clifftops lodges are individually named and decorated to reflect their environment.
Together they tell the story of how the sea, stone, wildlife, weather and people shaped
Church Ope Cove. We have named the lodges Blue, Stone, Copper, Silva and Ope.
Whilst the lodges are alike in style, Blue is on one single level. Ope also has the option of a hot tub installation on the terrace. Both these lodges have a larger outside space which include a fitted bbq and outdoor kitchen area.

As with all Penn Estate accommodation, we will design your stay at Clifftops around you. Whether you would prefer to take self- catered accommodation, a range of bed and breakfast options, or to use the lodges for a private event; we will ensure every request is covered. The Estate Team can meet all your requirements from local activities through to catering and housekeeping, creating a bespoke experience throughout your stay.
